Egija Inzule

Curatorial Talk

14 December 2018 18:00 - 19:30

ZHdK, Room 3.K13

I will speak about four exhibitions realized between 2010 and 2016, all of which took place in different spaces, contexts and times. I will share my approach of looking closely at exhibitions’ context’s specific social relations, situations and conditions within which artworks are developed or placed and how, in retrospect, their interaction within the context of an exhibition can become an integral part to the artwork. I have decided to use the simplest possible format for speaking in public, adopted from elementary school practice. With the help of “Show and Tell” and guided by selected objects placed on the discussion table, I will share raw materials and information on the following four exhibitions, and how things happened, how they worked, and if they mattered:

– THE GEO POLITICS OF MONETIZED AIRSPACE — Come Fly with Me, I Meet You
by the Airside Gucci Concession at 4, Fox Fur Hat
– Excerpts from “How They Met. Part 1: Mother and Her House”, “SupaStore”, “The Issues of Our Time (1 & 3)”, “Fille/Garçon” (2014);
– Valoda mākslā / Two Occasions, Fig. 7 – Konkrēti piemēri (2011);
– IN THE MIDDLE OF AFFAIRS (2010).

Egija Inzule (b. 1986 in Riga) worked as a curator on the teams at castillo/corrales in Paris (2012–2014), at Istituto Svizzero di Roma (2014–2016) and most recently at Shedhalle in Zürich.
Prior to and during these appointments, she has worked with following artists in various formats including exhibitions and research work: Martha Rosler, Fred Lonidier, Sarah Staton, Josephine Pryde, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Gerry Bibby, Nick Mauss, Nina Könnemann, Hans Christian-Lotz, Loretta Fahrenholz, Morag Keil, Melanie Matranga and Chris Kraus among others.
She has also worked with institutions and self-organised spaces, including Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, Gallery Silberkuppe in Berlin and Midway Contemporary Art in Minneapolis. She currently lives in Zurich.
