Curatorial Education and Research…

…with a Camera on Curating

2 October 2015 18:00 - 20:00

Dorothee Richter: Thinking About Curatorial Education
Undoubtedly CURATING is a new discursive formation, as defined by Michel Foucault, which has rapidly developed since the 1970s. We are aware that we are also part of this instituting process, with the developing of an Archive, with the Postgraduate Programme in Curating at ZHdK, and with the PhD platform, a cooperation between the University of Reading and our publications. This formation is instituted in hierarchical formations and power relations. Therefore we strive to open up processes, to question what instituting and de-instituting means, and to make our thoughts, struggles, and research accessible.

Dorothee Richter and Ronald Kolb: Introduction to our research with a camera on contemporary curatorial practices
We are working for the past months on a digital archive and a film on Curatorial Practice, therefore we interviewed until now 30 curators (including artists with a curatorial practice and also activist groups). We would like to introduce this research and discuss it with you! We did ask all interviewpartners along some specific topics, including questions on gender, art market and postcolonial aspects in curating. It is still a work in progress.
