In this talk, Nabi Nara—founder of SOMA Art Berlin—presents Becoming Future, a multi-year ongoing curatorial series
amplifying women’s voices in tech-based art through workshops, exhibitions, and immersive public interventions.
SOMA Art Berlin, based in Berlin-Kreuzberg, is a women-led and migrant-founded space that has grown over the past decade
into a self-organized platform for artistic expression, technology, and activism. With a focus on interdisciplinary and
community-centered work, SOMA supports emerging narratives that challenge structural norms in the art world.
Becoming Future brings together women artists working with tools such as AR, VR, AI, robotics, motion capture, and code.
Together, they address urgent themes like algorithmic identity, emotional AI, climate anxiety, and post-human cohabitation.
Projects have been developed and presented across Berlin, including public space activations during the Festival for Urban
Wellbeing and Berlin Science Week.
In this lecture, Nabi Nara will share the curatorial strategies used to support speculative and decentralized practices—from
feminist storytelling and code-based workshops to immersive mixed-reality installations. She will also reflect on the
institutional challenges of hosting diverse, tech-based practices within the urban and social fabric of Berlin.
The talk invites questions around access, collective intelligence, and curatorial responsibility—asking how we might imagine
and build more inclusive cultural systems through art and technology.
