The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia is responsible for Switzerland’s presence in the national pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Art and Architecture. As project leader, Sandi Paucic is responsible for the realisation of the exhibitions, accompanying programmes and opening events in Venice and the promotion in Switzerland. In his work, he and the Pro Helvetia Biennale team accompany the process every step of the way, from jury selection and official nomination to the implementation of the projects and the mediation. Paucic will not only report on the concrete aspects of his work. He will also ask questions like: What does it mean for the careers of artists to be represented at the Venice Biennale? Are the national pavilions, a concept from the 19th century, an anachronism? How political is the appearance at the Biennale?

Sandi Paucic is an art historian and curator. After studying in Zurich, he worked as a research assistant at the SIK and as the project manager of the ‘Biographical Dictionary of Swiss Art’. He was then Dean at the F+F School of Art and Design. Since 2011, he has been responsible for Pro Helvetia’s Swiss Biennale contributions as project manager. He is also president of the professional association Visarte Zurich. With his partner, the British artist Clare Goodwin, he runs the StudioK3 Project Space in Zurich.
