Curating is merely seen as a textual, theoretical as well as logistical and communicative function, today – a truely post-fordist endeavour. While I see (and partly regret) that this is all true, I still insist that curators should consider the visual and spatial components of curatorial labour more closely and be aware of its formative aspect rather than to reduce curating to a language-based and managerial activity only. In short: my concept of curating is based on an understanding of this practice as a form of aesthetic research and communication.

Since 2013, Søren Grammel is head of the department of Art since 1960 / Contemporary Art at Kunstmuseum Basel. Among others, he worked as a director of Kölnischer Kunstverein and Kunstverein Graz and as a Curator-in-Residence at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Vienna.
