Bodrum Biennial as an idea developed as a result of the annual art shows repeated all over the country by the Modern-Ist Association every year on the birthday of the Turkish Republic. They were called October Parades and  organized to be open on the 29th of October every year.  After ten years of regular exhibitions with the participation of many professional and amateur artists, there came the idea of making these shows in a more institutionalized format.

This was the beginning of the Bodrum Biennial. And I have been chosen as a curator for this project. I chose as the first biennial`s title: Aganta Burina Burinata. It is also the same title of a book written by Cevat Sakir Kabaagac, also known mostly as: The Fisherman of the Halicarnassus. These words symbolize the bond between all creatures and elements and it was also a greeting, which were used actually by the local fishermen when they first set sail to the open sea. It was a cry to the sky, to the sea and to all her creatures. It is reaching out for people; local, non-local, and also to remind of this relation of all.
